Basically IoT is a giant platform that allows you to connect multiple devices to the internet and continuously transfer huge amount data on how they perform among these devices so that they check and improve their performance(machine-to-machine communication).The things sense,accumulate and transfer data without any human intervention.This is influencing our lifestyle through ample techniques.That helps to perform better than it individually could.Data is sensed by various sensors and then its is integrated,analysed and extracted,based on which further actions are taken.
IoT is something on large scale,you can even make use of AI in this,or like image processing,data visualization,sensors,ML and fields like this can be integrated on IoT platforms. For example,the AC in our home may contain sensors,which passes the information to the costumer services,which may then notify us about the time to get it repaired.Another example is the unlocking system by face recognition.This in turn provides with better optimization , user experience and improves efficiency.
Why do we need them?There are over 20 billion devices that use IoT today. IoT extends its arms in environment monitoring like earthquake detection, weather changes or in agricultural field as moisture detection and alerts us. On the other hand, this is a way to effectively manage the energy utilization by reducing power consumption using sensors in lamps, and other electrical devices.Also it helps monitor public infrastructure like rails,so that proper repair works are carried out by giving alerts. In the field of healthcare,the systems enables to monitor a patients health along with it, maintains record of the patients which in turn brings in a lot of transparency,with it we also can check pressure or heart rate and take needed actions on time.Smart tablet is used to give supply medicines at proper gradients.As discussed above the smart home links all the appliances for its better usage,security and low power consumption.In transportation,the traffic monitoring system helps significantly.On a large scale we can think of IoT creating smart cities urging its citizens to adapt to the smart way of living.
The architecture of IoT - they consists of sensors and actuators to read data and take actions.The sensor data cannot be directly sent to cloud, so to convert it from analog to digital,we use the the data acquisition systems.The next step edge analysis involves data processing,image processing,ML,AI, etc.here is where the actual data processing happens.And finally ,in the data center(cloud) the data gets stored and actions can be taken to get information from different channels.
There are a number of IoT platforms to connect your devices ,some of these are Azure,IBM Watson IoT ,AWS,Google cloud platform,Bolt,Thing speak etc.These are developed to do the data processing,storage , induce notifications,image processing and such works.The applications build on this platform are the key to extract the data.the cloud platform enables us the application to work all the time.
As one of the widespread among all the technology trends, IoT is bursting out.The advances to internet in our future will be accelerated and along with AI and the ability to cretae and deploy will increase its potential to infinity.
